The Pop Smith Scholarship Fund provides funds for alumni of UMFS and Charterhouse School to attain post-secondary education. The Pop Smith Scholarship Fund was named after Reverend E. Leon “Pop” Smith who was the executive director of the Virginia Methodist Children’s Home, now UMFS, from 1949-1974.
Eligibility Guidelines and the Application Process
Staff and volunteers will work together to oversee and implement the Pop Smith Scholarship Fund. Decisions will be based on a standard application and staff’s knowledge of the student’s financial need and motivation to pursue post-secondary education.
Applicants must possess at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average and file a complete Financial Aid for School Tuition (FAST) application demonstrating financial need. Applicants must have successfully been a part one of the following UMFS and Charterhouse programs within 10 years of the date of application:
The Child and Family Healing Center; Charterhouse School; Treatment Foster Care Program; Adoption finalized by UMFS; or Enrolled in Courage to Succeed for one semester.
