Charterhouse School Student Earns National Award

Charterhouse School student Alex Campbell earns national award for self-advocacy

Alex Campbell, a 5th grader in Ms. Henggeler’s class, earned a national award through the Council of Exceptional Children for his work in self-advocacy.

Alex earned this prestigious honor because of his work advocating for regulations regarding seclusion and restraint in our schools. Alex bravely testified about his own experiences (in other public and private schools) in front of members of the Virginia General Assembly. His testimony lead to the passage of bills to prevent other children from suffering the way he did. Alex and his family will head to St. Louis in April to accept the award.

Be sure to give this unwavering champion a high-five if you see him around campus!
