Former Charterhouse Student Advocates on Capitol Hill

Remember the UMFS Spring Champion Alex? Earlier this month he visited Washington D.C to speak with U.S. senators and congressmen about the use of seclusion and restraint in public schools and to ensure that schools are equipped to educate children with special needs.

Alex’s dad Sean said “Alex had a great time in DC.  He met Senator Warner personally and was able to have 6 other meetings with legislative assistants to talk about IDEA funding and the possibility of a national Bill on restraint and seclusion.  He was also interviewed by the national special ed teacher of the year and did well considering it was in front of 200 people”

Later this summer he will receive the 2016 Catalyst for Change Award from The Arc of Virginia at a banquet in Williamsburg. Congrats Alex!
